Abstract:

Callitriche stagnalis (Callitrichaceae), Hippuris vulgaris (Hippuridaceae), Pinguicula moranensis and Utricularia vulgaris (both Lentibulariaceae) have been investigated for iridoid glucosides and verbascoside or similar compounds. Aucubin and/or catalpol were found in all four species and esters of these iridoids were present in three of them. From Utricularia vulgaris were isolated two novel iridoid esters, namely 6-O-p-coumaroylaucubin and 10-O-caffeoylaucubin. Verbascoside was present in Callitriche, Hippuris and Pinguicula, but could not be detected in Utricularia.
